Where is the Museum located?
The Thirlmere Railway Museum is located at Barbour Road, Thirlmere, near Picton - 85 kilometres south west of Sydney, NSW.
Nestled in the heart of the Wollondilly shire, Thirlmere is only minutes from many other attractions, including historic Picton and the Thirlmere Lakes National Park - and makes a convenient stopover on the way to the Southern Highlands and Canberra.
How to get there
Why not travel to Thirmere by train and make it a nice day's outing?
Heritage train, The Thirlmere Flyer, travels from Central to Thirlmere and back on the third Sunday of each month May through October. For timetable and fares see the Heritage Express website.
Regular trains stop at nearby Picton on the Southern Highlands line - see the CityRail website for timetables.
From Picton, Picton Buslines have regular services to Thirlmere from Monday to Saturday; see their website for timetables. Alternatively, Picton Taxis also travel from Picton - phone (02) 4683 1616.
Opening Hours
Thirlmere Rail Heritage Centre is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday during the following hours:
Valley Heights Museum
The NSWRTM also has a museum in the Blue Mountains - Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum, open the first and third Sundays of each month.
