MUSEUM DEVELOPMENT UPGRADE INFORMATION

Stage One of the Rail Heritage Centre Thirlmere upgrade, the Roundhouse Maintenance Centre was completed late in October 2009. The Centre was officially opened by the local member and Minister for Water and Minister for Regional Development Mr Phillip Costa MP.

During late October, it was announced by RailCorp that Robson Constructions, in association with Stephen Edwards Constructions were the successful tenderer for Stage Two of the Thirlmere Upgrade Project.

Stage Two includes site soil remediation, demolition of existing locomotive maintenance and parts storage buildings, remediation and sealing of the walkways in the existing exhibition building, upgrading of the Dick Zillman Memorial Building and Workshop, demolition of the existing shop and small exhibits building, the construction of the new Major Exhibits Building and the landscaping of the surrounding grounds.

The site was formerly handed over to Robson Constructions on Monday 2 November. A perimeter exclusion fence was immediately constructed around the construction area where work commenced immediately.

The work progress will be illustrated by photographs that will be presented each calendar month with previous work being available as an archive so that the progress can be viewed from the beginning.
